Exide Technologies Environment, Health, and Safety Supervisor in Salina, Kansas
This position will be responsible to review, evaluate, and analyze work procedures and environments and assist in the design of programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury caused by physical, chemical, or ergonomic factors. Duties will include, but not be limited to: Assess and evaluate plant conditions for EHS compliance, conduct or manage inspections and team with management and supervision to enforce adherence to EHS policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Successful candidates will possess the ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds, skills, and education levels to organize and complete projects in an efficient manner. The EHS Supervisor is expected to develop and maintain proficiency in technical matters related to EHS and in people skills necessary to continually grow the safety culture at Exide.
Develop programs and procedures for safety management including control of hazardous energy, confined spaces, fall protection, electrical safety, powered industrial truck safety, personal protective equipment
Inspect the workplace and workers’ practices to identify, evaluate and control hazards, ensure that workers are protected, and comply with Exide and OSHA requirements for periodic inspections and reviews
Team with leadership and plant functional leaders to complete periodic EHS program reviews and revise programs as appropriate (e.g. EHS program annual reviews)
Investigate accidents, incidents and near miss incidents, collecting and analyzing facts and conditions so that an effective root cause analysis can be completed and causal factors can be identified, and corrective actions can be tracked, assigned and completed
Investigate employee complaints related to health and safety
Provide assistance to the engineering team for new manufacturing process, construction, demolition and renovation activities
Lead Gemba Walks and other proactive EHS efforts to continually drive employee engagement and improve the Exide safety culture
Assist in the leading of the plant safety program and drive positive safety culture
Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement corrective measures to reduce ergonomic injuries
Conduct EHS training, including new-hire employee safety and contractor orientation
Work with the Plant Nurse to ensure effective medical surveillance related to respiratory protection, lead exposure, noise exposure, and other hazards in the workplace
Work within department budget in support of plant financial objectives
Contribute to Exide’s EHS Management System and own selected EHS Standards as assigned by Plant EHS Manager
Calibrate, maintain and use air and water sampling equipment
Collection of air and water samples as necessary
Submission of samples for analysis in accordance with established procedures
Recommend sampling methods, strategies and help establish priorities
Receive, review and interpret sampling results
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A Bachelor degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety or related field
3-5 years of industrial EHS experience
Will also consider Associates degree with 8-10 years directly related experience
Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA/State Regulations
Knowledge of proper protocol for exposure monitoring is preferred
Proficient with MS Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Word)
Experience with Google productivity software is strongly preferred (Google Sheets, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides)
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, supervisors, managers
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
EHS Employees are expected to stand, walk plant areas, climb ladders, crouch and bend, sit, squat or crawl with minimal effort as needed to safely inspect confined spaces and equipment as required
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to airborne contaminants and particles, heat and humidity
EHS Employees will be required to wear a respirator inside the manufacturing facility and be clean-shaven as required
