Exide Technologies Tooling Technician in Salina, Kansas
Responsible for having departmental tooling ready for changeovers. Responsible for tooling recertification procedures, maintaining tooling in good operating condition, and tracking of tooling for Metals Dept., Pasting Dept., COS/Assembly Dept.
Receives production tooling from various Dept’s and puts away. Examples: RLS slitter assemblies, Cominco cooling drum, Grid Molds, Trim Dies, Pasting Shoes, COS mold, dams, inserts, baskets, platens, adapters, grippers, case punches, auto dropper funnels and grippers, air checker tooling, post molds and hand molds, plate stacker tooling and any other misc. tooling.
Communicates with manufacturing personnel about problems and possible tooling solutions.
Cleans and performs required maintenance and calibration of various departments tooling, repairing or replacing worn or damaged components.
Helps track tooling wear and durability, and helps maintain tooling inventory files.
Work with plant personnel on ideas for tooling improvements.
Using manufacturing schedules, the tooling technician prepares changeover kits for manufacturing personnel to facilitate production line changeovers. Assist in production set-ups if required. May occasionally be required to assist in other maintenance projects.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Comply with current Quality Systems requirements.
Follow Lean manufacturing procedures.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Perform other work as assigned by the Supervisor or management personnel.
Education, Experience, Skills Required:
High school education or equivalent
Ability to read and interpret engineering prints.
Ability to interact and work well with others.
Strong mechanical skills
Current assembly department working knowledge preferred
- Hand and power tools, welders, grinders, torch, and computers.
Occasional heavy lifting of 70 or more pounds, routine lifting of items up to 50 pounds.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Withstand occasional exposure to extreme environmental conditions such as heat, cold, odors, and dust.
